I
purchased my first cockatiel at age 16 when the
choices were normal & normal. I was always hanging
around animal fairs when I was young trying to figure out why one animal
won. After raising and winning with other livestock,
Cockatiels came into my life by way of a rescues
pair.
After 3 years of breeding, I joined NCS & saw Bob
Cape’s Pieds & Clear Pieds. Many purchases &
breedings later with these nearly perfectly marked
and
colored pieds, I saw a need to improve show qualities
but not lose the qualities I had. |
|
I
purchased my first Show Cockatiel
“Aura”, won my
first NCS Cockatiel Show & was hooked. Aura was my
first big winner plus I won my first BiS at the NCBS
with her daughter. Meanwhile, I convinced Lloyd
Bailey to sell me some excellent pieds that I
combined with Bob Cape pieds to create my Pied line.
This line has won 4 NCBS & the only recent NCS
Specialty the year there was no NCBS. Aura & her
relations have been used for her superlative head,
eye, substance & type. I have made many purchases
over the years to improve Calico. Some worked & were
kept. Some did not and were not continued. |

I have worked diligently for the betterment of NCS
Cockatiels in co-founding the Washington Cockatiel
Fanciers Society, creating 3 & 5 day Cockatiel Shows
with the Washington State Fair, and donating Cockatiels
that have raised over $20,000 for Cockatiel Shows. I
have
served as an NCS Judge, Board of Director, and Show
Panel Chairman. I have been top exhibiter of the year for four of
the past few years & I am the
top NCS all-time
breeder & exhibitor. I am very pleased that over
half of the Calico Grand Champions & Champions won
their awards for their purchasers. And I am always
available to help my customers.
I am fortunate that the quality at Calico allows me
to sell and donate cockatiels
that consistently win Best in Shows & Championships,
plus produce top quality for their new owners. This
is very rewarding to me. My
focus now is for the
continued improvement of our Cockatiels including
temperament, type, style & natural good health.
Experimentation, good records, spaciousness,
cleanliness, proper diet & exercise are essential. I
am fortunate in having proven stock to use to
improve the quality of my ’tiels.
